The Sword of Truth
It has been a while since my last post, but I felt the need to write something about a book I recently read. I am currently overseas where my internet connection is extremely slow. For that reason, I cannot play very many video games, nor can I watch streaming tv online. To occupy my spare time, I have taken to reading.
My wife sent me a great Tom Clancy book, one of the Net Force series. I had read it once before, but the story was so good I couldn’t put it down the second time around. Feeling the need to read something else, I searched the web for something that I might enjoy. Fortunately for me, I stumbled across Terry Goodkind’s, The Sword of Truth, series.
Most of the reviews on Amazon were right on the mark. The writing style wasn’t spectacular, but the story was amazing. Due to it’s simplicity, it read quickly, yet it also offered enough description to where I could paint a picture of the world in which the tale unfolded.
The book tells the story of a woods guide named Richard who is thrown into a world of chaos shortly after his father is murdered. His journey to find his father’s killer takes him to lands he never thought he would see, and to lands that awaken ‘something’ within him. I can’t say much more without ruining the story. There are many characters in the book that I grew to love, some that I now loathe, but each one contributed to the shaping of each other’s lives.
Since there are a considerable amount of books in this series, I can’t wait to start the next one. However, the emotional drain from this last one may cause me to wait a day or two before I begin on another journey. A warning to anyone who enjoys reading to their children, though. This book has violence and content that is not suitable for anyone less than 16 years of age.
